”She’s as big as four-fifths of five-eighths of fuck all, but she takes no bullshit from anyone.”

This is just a quick post to say that if you read The Girl with All the Gifts and enjoyed it, but have been hesitant about watching the movie, don’t be. I finally watched it the other night, and I was very impressed. I’m a purist who picks apart every movie adaptation of every book I enjoy, and I have nothing negative to say about the movie adaptation of The Girl with All the Gifts.

Girl with All the Gifts

Sennia Nanua is just delightful as Melanie (if you can call a hungry “delightful”), and the rest of the casting is excellent, too. M.R. Carey (the author of the book and the screenplay, in case you’re not familiar) condensed the story a little–or the movie would have been hours longer, obviously–but nothing important is left out. The screenplay follows the book very closely. I’m not entirely sure how this stuff works, but I probably have the director (Colm McCarthy) to thank, too, for how closely the movie follows the book.

If you haven’t read the book or watched the movie and have no idea what I’m talking about, The Girl with All the Gifts is a fantastic post-apocalyptic/zombie-pocalypse story with some interesting twists. If you’re into that kind of thing, I highly recommend it. Read the book. Watch the movie. You won’t be disappointed.
